Fireworks Superstore Slow down the road is on fire Seen the smoke three miles away It’s heating up, the traffic stops Down by the certified scales Hey all you cowboys and clowns Bikers and the faithful blessed They're showing up to watch it burn Looks like a goddamn mess Rockets all around American and out of this world Rockets all around American and out of this world Rockets all around American and out of this world Tintinnabulation of the shell shock shooting Register's about to blow It was the grace of the Lord above That everyone escaped Another one burnt down in that town Five years to the day That’s what the reports say It was a pyrographic circus display In the shadow of the symbol of a giant cross Like a kind of Judgement Day Rockets all around American and out of this world Rockets all around American and out of this world Rockets all around American and out of this world Tintinnabulation of the shell shock shooting Register's about to blow The fuse the flame the flash the fumes The bomb the boom the burn the blast Get out of there fast Get out while you can Get out with the cash

You're up in the front Sit back down Transmissions receiving just ain't enough You're up in the front Sit back down Can't determine the reason that you're the conductor Particles in the spectrum they're taking you over Don’t think you said that you don’t know Don’t think you said to come back to the fold Future slowed down as it was so old Don’t think you said to come back to the fold You're up in the front Sit back down All your disappearing Is a phase in the flow All your interfering Face the animal All your backwards steering Based it all on a feeling What you mean bears repeating So get down in the front Don’t think you said that you don’t know Don’t think you said to come back to the fold Future's said and done as it was so close Don’t think you said to come back to the fold Never gonna find the past, never gonna make it last

Speedin' Up 02:44
Speedin' Up Things are speedin' up It's both good and not good Worn a rut Down this path before Rolling stones and cones converging Narrowing time bends a beam of light That points the way in the dark That goes away from the spark Away from the start Things aren't slowing down Acceleration all around Yeah the future is cut Been through this door before Time is a form of perception Analyze it with a critical eye It's open to interpretation Expectation of an answer why The lunar landing was the beginning Hard to believe we're still in the fight Advancing Moving away from understanding Away from understanding Things are speedin' up

Bad Voltage Blues Electrocute or diffuse System's overloading, don't you disapprove All you got going boy is the dirt beneath your shoes The ground is broke, so the current soaks Sets you up at 60 cycle buzz delight no quiet crack the fuse What you got is the bad voltage blues The breaker flips and the power strips Don’t go to the overload for a therapeutic fix - you might call it quits It's bad voltage Pick up that plug, plug it in real snug Shocking cracking shreds of static feeding back and smoking burnt and blue Not sure what is happening or what we're going to do Magnetic poles resist control Zero of potential courteous and cold The charge is lit - isn't it bad voltage Power goes untamed so the hum remains Alternating current can't you take the blame - it can't be fixed It's bad voltage

Scrap Traders They're taking from the churches, all across the nation They're taking from the schools and the power sub-stations They take it from the streets, they take it from AC When they're done taking yours, they'll take it from me Lost in the wilderness in the city Can't get your wings under control Can't give back those things you stole! Scrap Traders, you do me no favors, you're taking down society Scrap Traders, you do me no favors, you're taking down the country They're climbing to the top of the AT&T Towers Prying off the lights, even if it takes them hours Packing their pipes with the profits from the lights stealing all the metal in sight Lost in the wilderness in the city Can't get your wings under control Can't give back those things you stole! Scrap Traders, you do me no favors, you're taking down society Scrap Traders, you do me no favors, you're taking down the country They take it from computers, and from televisions They take it from the gaslights from the furnace to the kitchen They're taking all the scraps from everything they see When they're done taking yours they'll take it from me Lost in the wilderness in the city Can't get your wings under control Can't give back those things you stole! Scrap Traders, you do me no favors, you're taking down society Scrap Traders, you do me no favors, you're taking down the country

Step Back Trip Working so close to craziness Blue light outside, blue light in Watch it all at once dim Cancel these thoughts if you would Turn back before if you could At least be a bit misunderstood Clean house keep complicating Feeling faint like it has flown away Working so close to craziness Watch it all at once dim Layers between are thinning Try to keep refining The ravel keeps unwinding Step back trip and spin Take a walk and fall in the pit Through with it step back trip have a fit don't waste your time with this Working so close to craziness

Blood On The Blacktop You come from the east side of town, and me from the North. Our kind meet in-between, a place where we can take cover, and ditch the mistress for another. You been coming down hard on me Those pills you take aint workin' for 'ya, Those pills you take aint workin'...no. Big sky don't shed no rain here, Yet floods in the south. We dance to keep it clean, A place where we can take cover, A place where we can take cover. Blood on the blacktop Way too high for such an attitude, gotta a little fight left in 'ya, gotta a little bite left to 'ya. Sounds crazy if you're asking me, relieve the pressure with a hammer, relieve the pressure with a hammer. Blood on the blacktop

No Explanation You got the poison idea waiting in line Consuming your health It sticks in your mind biding its time 'Til you take it down off the shelf So undercover it's already gone Got to disappear A cover operation there's nothing to see Nothing here It's just as we feared Thinking those thoughts that won't get out of your head The pressure keeps building won't get out of your head Injecting interference in the circles around A dimension of infection Another mirror image that's reflecting the times Open your eyes to a change in direction Distorted information, disorientation Can't take any action Observing the defense to the turn of events You've been driven to distraction Thinking those thoughts that won't get out of your head The pressure keeps building won't get out of your head

King of The Road Throttle up and turn the wheels in motion Improve your speed and performance with this solution Bottom out, until full submission You got the keys to increase my commission Bottom out until you peak Say bottom out you piece of meat Yeah, stick me once You got to throttle it up Keep your hands on the wheel and your foot on the floor You got to bottle it up Sold my soul to the rock n roll you crown me King of The road Ride the high and stay clear of the shield It's in your eyes, it's how you feel...how you feel? Bottom out, until full submission You got the keys to increase my commission Bottom out until you peak Say bottom out you piece of meat Yeah, stick me once again You got to throttle it up Keep your hands on the wheel and your foot on the floor You got to bottle it up Takes a toll on the soul when you're King Of The road King Of The road King Of The road

Stella Maris 02:51
Stella Maris Elemental tides washing over Take cover, take a breath Moon's a dagger, curved and crashing Cuts you like the wind Your ship is made of ephemera Phases and stages, planets in transit Its not the way you planned it The sun burns, the ice cools The tide washes over you Your tempest just won't settle Stella Maris

Double Barrel Quarantine Driving through the jungle streets It's a border stop by the local thieves It’s a double barrel quarantine Imagine it unraveling Double barrel quarantine Rum and gasoline Won't you look at the picture outside of the frame Things that you see are not happening Changing, staying the same Realize it’s not what you think Reality contaminated by a dream The eye of the needle stares endlessly Intense, sustained, continuing stream The tree is growing by dying seed The serpent slides in ashes and leaves The eagle soars in the mountain breeze It’s a double barrel quarantine Living in duality It's a double barrel quarantine Mescal and kerosene Won't you look at the picture outside of the frame Things that you see are not happening Changing, staying the same Realize it’s not what you think Reality contaminated by a dream The eye of the needle stares endlessly Intense, sustained, continuing stream The tree is growing by dying seed Don’t hold on to the form, Lord, don’t hold on to the form Forward in reverence, forward in awe Echoes, imitations, records that are just too old

Jim 03:29
Jim There’s a lot of bad stories going around about Jim. Workin’ on the weekend at the fillin’ station. If you notice, people disappear after askin’ directions. How they end up, well. People ain’t talkin’. The sunlight bleached his soul of sin. X4 Was a late night ride in the deep dark moonlight. Crazy kinda’ feelin’ took a hold of him. Don’t remember anything till it become daylight. There’s a lot of bad stories going around about Jim. The sunlight bleached his soul of sin. X4 There’s crazy stories about Jim. Some ain’t been heard. It’s like somethin’ snapped inside of him, and the old Jim never returned. Some folks say it’s the devil, come to make his claim. They say the voodoo’s here and it’s gonna’ stay that way. The sunlight bleached his soul of sin. The sunlight bleached his soul of sin.

about

This debut album from The Darkhearts came together over the course of a couple of years. It saw breakups and makeups, shakeups and shape ups, rats out back, old dogs, smoke, cold refrigerators, whips and chains. we have stories. Recordings took place at several storied locations. Some stories will never see the light of day.

Scrap Traders was recorded at Murder Creek Barn Studio by Jeff Scott Roberson. That's his church bell from his barn at the beginning of the song. Chris used a selection of Jeff's vintage guitar amps. Kendall played shovels, rakes, railroad spikes, a metal chair, various found barn objects, and a "certain" vintage garbage can at Murder Creek.

One studio had hundreds, no really, hundreds, of rats out back! Some brazenly ventured inside to greet us late at night making adrenaline flow on an instant sighting! We named this place, "The Rat Palace" of course. We invited Jeremy Lesniak over to record and he bravely said he would do it so we recorded three tracks there. The tracks are Fireworks Superstore, Never Gonna Last, and King Of The Road, so if you listen really close....

We left "The Rat Palace" after these recordings.

All of the other songs were recorded by us in our new studio that we never really named and Chris and Scott's home studios.

There was guitar after guitar introduced, two of which were old tyme acoustics (formerly owned by Sam Nation) that Chris glued back together and pressed into service for the album. The drum tracks were recorded in a room with twenty-five foot high ceilings. The drums are 1974 Ludwigs with a 26" kick, a 14" tom, an 18" floor tom and a 20" floor tom. The snare is a 6 1/2" x 14" Corder.
Also recorded was an 18" rapid speed drum tuning pedal that's like a roto tom with a tuning pedal attached, to insane effect on "Step Back Trip".
There are recorded 40 foot heavy chain drops from atop a wooden ladder. There is a door slam, shaking coffee cans filled with nuts and bolts, sheet metal shakes, ashtrays, jumping on a mic'd up pile of broken cymbals, you know, all the usual stuff!
All of the buzzes and squeaks were left in for the listeners discernment. (Except one.) Use your headphones, If you got 'em.

We really hope you enjoy listening and dancing or driving to these twelve songs as much as we enjoyed creating and recording them for you! Turn it up loud, even when you shouldn't!
